Galaxy lose to Sekhukhune at Mbombela Stadium
TS Galaxy lost 1-0 to Sekhukhune United in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership match at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
Pogiso Mahlangu’s second-half strike fired Babina Noko up to sixth spot on the league standings. Galaxy remain winless in the league and rooted to the bottom of the table on two points after six matches.
The game got off to a rather slow start with neither team able to create any noteworthy chances at goal.
That finally changed in the 31st minute as Galaxy pounced on a mistake from the visitors. Ethan Brooks found Mxolisi Macuphu inside the area but the Rockets skipper planted his volley attempt wide of goal.
Macuphu looked the most likely to score for Galaxy and in the 58th minute he hit the woodwork. A well-worked set-piece move found the towering forward free at the back post but his attempt hit the post and not the back of the net.
Sekhukhune started to find their rhythm around the hour mark and after Nkanyiso Madonsela squandered a good chance, Mahlangu found the opener.
Brought on as a second-half substitute, Mahlangu provided the desired impact off the bench. A counter-attack ignited by goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata was finished off superbly by Mahlangu who was brilliantly teed up by Tshediso Patjie in the 79th minute of the match.
This sparked the Rockets into action and Brooks forced Nsabata into a top save with a rocket of a shot in the 84th minute.
The Zambian shot-stopper had to be at his best once again in stoppage-time to keep out Wayde Lekay as the visitors ultimately held on for all three points.
