Mngomezulu rescues Galaxy against Arrows
TS Galaxy twice came from behind to hold Lamontville Golden Arrows to a 2-2 draw in a 2021/22 DStv Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The draw left the Rockets and Abafana Bes’thende placed 12th and ninth respectively on the league standings – three matches into the season.
Abafana Bes’thende started the match brightly with Pule Mmodi, who was looking dangerous for the away side, creating a half-chance for his team a few minutes into the game.
The speedy attacker beat his marker before delivering a cross for Michael Gumede, who found himself in a one-on-situation with goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak, but Ibraam Seedat made a crucial clearance.
Having been dominant, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Saziso Magawana was fouled in the box and Gumede converted the resultant penalty to hand Arrows a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.
However, Abafana Bes’thende went to sleep at the back after taking the lead as Lindokuhle Mbatha set-up Mxolisi Macuphu, who scored in the 40th minute to make it 1-1 heading into the half-time break.
The teams were evenly matched after the restart with most of the ball being played in midfield and Arrows coach Lehlohonolo Seema decided to introduce Thubelihle Magubane on the hour-mark.
The hosts then upped the tempo and they managed to restore their lead when Velemseni Ndwandwe headed home to make it 2-1 to Arrows with 14 minutes left on the clock.
However, just as they did in the first-half, Abafana Bes’thende sat back after taking the lead and they allowed the Rockets to dominate the game and the hosts snatched a late equalising goal.
Sinethemba Mngomezulu was the man who grabbed the equalizer with two minutes left on the clock on his official debut for Galaxy, and the inspired substitute ensured that the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
