TS Galaxy starlet Sibongiseni Shelembe has reflected on his dream debut for the Rockets.
Shelembe featured for the first time in the elite league on Sunday night as the Rockets suffered a 3-0 loss at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 20-year-old came off the bench in the dying minutes of the match.
“My debut against Sundowns presented me with an opportunity to introduce myself into professional football. I wasn’t just excited but people around we’re extremely elated like my family and mom. They were more excited than I was,” Shelembe stated.
On a few occasions, the dynamic dribbling wizard has made the traveling squad in the current season.
“Making my debut against a big team like Sundowns made me feel special. It showed what I have been going through, it was hard work. I made my ranks through the DDC. I was happy,” he added.
Shelembe joined the Rockets last season but spent most of his time with the DStv Diski Challenge side.
“When I started playing football, it was for fun. I never thought I’d turn professional. People out there started to take notice of my talent. They informed me that I’m good. That’s where I started to take my football seriously. I’m not living my dream as yet but I can safely say that I’m heading in the right direction. There are still things that I want to achieve before I can say, this is where I want to be. I’m almost there,” Shelembe elaborated.
Perseverance was key to Shelembe’s accomplishments.
“There were a few times where I was down and doubting myself but there were people who kept pushing me. They told me that it won’t be easy but I can make it easy for myself. That motivated me. They informed me that I can’t give up just now. Giving up wasn’t an option. Hard work always pays off. I’m now starting to make note of that.” Shelembe explained.
