Masilake “Scara” Phohlongo is living his dream after finally fulfilling his goal of donning the Bafana Bafana jersey.
The TS Galaxy left winger made his debut for Bafana in the opening game of the Cosafa Cup at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium against Botswana.
The former Under-20 international has revealed that it has always been his childhood dream to play for his country at senior level.
“Playing for the national team is a dream come true. Every player in South Africa wants to play for the national team. To be chosen to play for my country is a huge honor. It shows the hard work that I’ve been putting in over the last few months. It is now finally paying off. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity,” Phohlongo elaborated.
At the start of the year, he scored on his debut for the Rockets and has never looked back.
“I didn’t expect the Bafana call-up to be honest. I was still enjoying the off-season when I received the news of my call-up. I was excited and I took the opportunity with both hands. Even at home, everyone was excited. I didn’t want to disappoint them and I told myself that I’ll go there and give it my best,” he added.
Yesterday was an unused substitute when Bafana hammered Lesotho 4-0.
Today, he is expected to feature when Bafana Bafana entertains Zambia in the last game of the group stages at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
“It was a great feeling to make my debut. I told myself that it is now or never. I got support from my friends and family. I wasn’t nervous at all. The experience that I got from the Under-20 World Cup helped me.” Phohlongo stated.
