Mthobisi Mngomezulu has set his sights on challenging for the Golden Boot gong.
The lanky talisman has notched up two goals for TS Galaxy FC in the current season.
He was on the scoresheet midweek against Baroka FC at the iconic Mbombela Stadium.
Mngomezulu joined the Rockets from Uthongathi FC at the start of the season. He netted on debut against Lamontville Golden Arrows in a 2-all stalemate at Mbombela Stadium.
“I believe that I can personally challenge for the Golden Boot. Working hard will be key in fulfilling that goal,” a confident Mngomezulu explained.
Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns and Victor Letsoalo of Royal AM are currently leading the pack with six strikes each.
Mngomezulu slotted the penalty against Baroka as the Rockets recorded their first win of the season.
“As strikers, it is our responsibility to score goals. I had no choice but to find the back of the net because the skipper of the club, Mxolisi Macuphu, tasked me with the responsibility of taking the penalty,” Mngomezulu detailed.
The Rockets broke the three-match streak without finding the back of the net against Baroka.
“It was a huge confidence booster for us as strikers to score both goals. But having said that, there’s still room for improvement. No one is in that top goalscorer’s list. We have to work diligently to challenge for that Golden Boot award. We have the players that are capable of challenging it,” he added.
The Rockets moved from position 16th on the log to number 15th. Marumo Gallant is now at the bottom of the log.
“I’m happy with the fact that the team is now in a better position. It is not about individual glory but the priority is the club,” Mngomezulu elaborated.
This afternoon, the Rockets will lock horns against SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
”We want maximum points against SuperSport. We are fighting for our team. They will be more dangerous having lost in the midweek against Royal AM. It is not going to be an easy encounter. We are also dangerous because we are at the bottom of the log.” Mngomezulu concluded.
The game is live on SuperSport PSL (channel 202) at 5:30 pm.
