Wayde Lekay has reminisced about his dream debut at the iconic Mbombela Stadium last season.
The lanky talisman netted on debut for TS Galaxy FC against AmaZulu at Mbombela last season.
Lekay rose highest in the box in Galaxy’s first home game in the elite league to head the Rockets to victory.
“This is a beautiful stadium. The first time I played in the stadium, I scored on my debut. I remember that night vividly. I also came here the night before to train. Legends have played in this stadium. Night games are always enjoyable,” Lekay detailed in an interview with the TS Galaxy FC website at Mbombela Stadium.
The 23-year-old will be looking to steer the Rockets to another victory in the opening home game of the season.
“I was confident that night. I could feel that I was going to score. This time around I’m also feeling the same. We’ve put in some hard work in the pre-season. We are confident to just go there and do our best. We’ve worked hard and I think we can reap the rewards of the hard work that we have put in,” Lekay stated.
Last season, he missed a penalty against Chiefs but he is over that now.
“I’ve put last season’s penalty miss behind me. It is a new season, new goals. We have new achievements that we can work towards. No one needs the motivation to play against Chiefs. I need to go out there and score against Chiefs.
“They are one of the best. They are one of the most well-known teams in the country. It has always been a dream to play against them. That’s what I’m coming to do,” Lekay elaborated.
The likes of Augustine Kwem, Mohammed Anas and Mthobisi Mngomezulu might make their debuts upfront for the Rockets.
“This is a wonderful stadium to play your first home game. There is brotherhood in this team. Just like they did when I played my first home game here, I’ll support everyone that will be making their debut. We are going to fight for one another. They should go out there and enjoy it. Best of luck to all those that will be making their debuts. Go out there and enjoy it.” Lekay elaborated.
