IN TOUCH WITH MXOLISI MACUPHU

The towering Mxolisi Macuphu is a vital cog for TS Galaxy.

He is not amongst the leading strikers in the league but but there’s no denying that Macuphu has been instrumental for the Rockets.

He has become the pillar of strength for the Rockets with his contributions. If he is not scoring goals, Macuphu is setting them up.

The even-hard working marksman is forever involved when the Rockets are asking questions in the opposition’s half.

After 13 league appearances, Macuphu has notched up four strikes and contributed with two assists.

In an interview with TS Galaxy website, Macuphu revealed that his target is reaching double figures.

“I’ve scored four goals this season and assisted a few. The target for me has been realistically 10 goals. Anything above that will be a bonus. 10 goals for me will do well for me. The most important thing is retaining the status of the team and then next season we will be a much more stronger team,” Macuphu stated.

Against Orlando Pirates, he may not have scored or made an assist but he instigated the move that led in to a goal.

“As a striker you always get judged by the number of goals that you score. It takes a special individual or a coach to say, my striker is not scoring but what amount of contribution are putting forward to the team. Are you assisting in scoring goals or are you influential going forward. Time and time again, you’ll be out of form but mental strength is the key. If you mental strength, you’ll always comes up on top. Yes, you always have a pressure as a footballer but it is how you deal with it that is important,” Macuphu lamented.

What has made him a standout performer is the fact that he is a team player. His work ethic is second to none.

All eyes will be on Macuphu again to deliver the goods for the Rockets on Saturday.

We have the date with our sworn rivals, TS Sporting in the Nedbank Cup last 32. The Mpumalanga derby will be staged at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday at 3pm.

“The Nedbank Cup draw is a tricky one. It is a derby. Derbies are always special. They are all about the bragging rights. They are a GladAfrica Championship team. They will come in to this game more invigorated. I don’t think there is a player that doesn’t want to play in the elite league. The boys will want to show our technical team what they can do. I can promise to TS Galaxy fans that we will go out there and fight to go in to the next round. The club has been blessed with winning this trophy before. We want to develop that culture.” Macuphu elaborated.
