Greg Etafia has opened up about how he turned Melusi Buthelezi into one of the best goalkeepers in the country.
Buthelezi is in red-hot form for TS Galaxy Football Club. He has kept five clean sheets in seven league outings for the Rockets.
Hugo Broos rewarded him for his vigilant displays.
“First of all, we would like to thank God as the family of TS Galaxy FC for blessing us with Melusi Buthelezi. I’m just surprised and at the same time, overwhelmed. It is one of the proudest moments to have the goalkeeper on the national team. If you go back to his story, it is a very touching story. He was number four for two and half seasons. He never featured in the friendly matches,” Etafia who is the goalkeeper coach of TS Galaxy explained.
Buthelezi played second fiddle to Wensten Van Der Linde, Vasilije Kolak, and Marlon Heugh over the past two seasons. He burst into scenes at the start of the year.
“We have to put glory on God. We have to thank the team for showing faith in him. I always knew that he has something on him. The very first day, I came to TS Galaxy, I saw something in him. He is committed and wants to work every day. Melusi believes in himself. He just needed someone to bring that monster out of him. I’m glad that God used me to be that someone that helped him out,” he added.
The Rockets will lock horns against the Richards Bay FC tomorrow at 5.30 pm. The match will be staged at King Zwelithini Stadium.
“It wasn’t easy to keep him going when I arrived. When I arrived at TS Galaxy, he wasn’t even considered for friendly games. I was motivating him every day. We also started training an hour earlier than the scheduled time. We worked on several aspects of his game.” Etafia concluded.
