TS Galaxy Football Club has been dumped out of the Nedbank Cup.
The Rockets were sent packing by Baroka FC on the penalty shootout. Bakgakga emerged as 5-3 victors.
The game ended 1-1 in 120 minutes. Baroka opened their account in the 32nd minute when Thami Masiya was fouled in the box by Mlungisi Mbunjana.
Sekela Sithole converted the spot for Baroka.
The Rockets had two glorious opportunities in the first half but Orebotse Mongae and Augustine Kwem couldn’t find the back of the net.
Mongae was denied by Elvis Chipezeze while Kwem missed the target. After the interval, the Rockets continued to dominate the bulk of the possession and pile more pressure on Baroka.
The visitors finally succumbed to the relentless pressure when Sipho Maluleka netted an own goal.
Mongae delivered an exquisite ball to the box from a free-kick and the defender directed his header to the back of his own net in the 72nd minute.
The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and went to extra time. Both teams couldn’t be separated in the extra 30 minutes and penalties followed.
Sihle Nduli missed for Galaxy while Baroka converted all of their five penalties. Shane Roberts, Pogiso Sanoka, and Bathusi Aubaas all converted for the Rockets.
Baroka advanced to the quarterfinals after winning 5-3 on penalties.
