Da Gama facing a selection conundrum

TS Galaxy FC head coach, Owen Da Gama, is facing a selection conundrum ahead of the blockbuster encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday at 5pm.

The Rockets will battle it out against the Brazilians in pursuit of maximum points this coming week at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Mxolisi Macuphu and Mthobisi Mngomezulu netted for Galaxy in the previous encounter against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Mngomezulu came off the bench to score on his debut. On other hand, Mohammed Anas and Augustine Kwem are pushing hard at training to earn a starting berth.

“There’s no doubt about it. We’ve got a serious selection problem with the strikers. Any two of them can play. Unfortunately, Kwem  had a bit of an injury last week but he is back now. We also have Anas. The new players have got to find their feet. They’ve got to understand how we play. We’ve got to understand how best to utilize their strength in the team. It is all a process. It is a very nice headache to have,” Da Gama admitted.

Peter Shalulile has been the best player for Mamelodi Sundowns in the past 12 months.

“You’ve got to plan for Peter Shalulile. He proved it last season that he can single-handedly win games for Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns are the type of team that just goes with the flow once they score the first goal. Once they score first, they get confidence and it becomes very difficult to come back against them. Yes, we understand his qualities. Whether we can stop him or not. It is a different question but we will certainly give it our best shot,” he added.

Da Gama discovered Shalulile during his tenure with Highlands Park.

“We will work very hard and from a tactical perspective, we will need to get this one right.” Da Gama explained.

The Rockets are still searching for that elusive first victory in the new season.
