TS Galaxy starlet Ethan Brooks is currently the talk of the town following his sparkling displays for Bafana Bafana in the Cosafa Cup.
The 19-year-old midfielder has become a vital cog for the senior national team. He was influential as Bafana Bafana dispatched Botswana and Eswatini to go to the summit in Group A with six points after two games.
Football lovers have already started to compare Brooks with the legendary Steven “Schillo” Pienaar who made his name in national colours and abroad in countries like the Netherlands, Germany and England.
“Steven Pienaar is one of the best players to have ever come from South Africa. He has played here in the country and abroad. I’m just taking it day by day. I don’t want to put pressure on myself,” Brooks elaborated.
He made his debut for Bafana Bafana last month in an international friendly against Uganda.
“I feel great about commanding a regular starting berth in the Bafana Bafana setup. It shows that the coaches have a lot of trust in me and as a player that means a lot to me. It will build my confidence as I go game by game. This is a great opportunity for me to go out there and showcase my talent,” he added.
Brooks will be back in action on Tuesday against Malawi at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The match will kick-off at 3pm.
“With the players that we have here, I believe we can go all the way. The players in the camp are all capable of putting in the hard work.” Brooks concluded.
